Monica began coordinating collaborative performances with church children’s choirs, and began working with students as a  music camp volunteer circa 2006. The idea for a student-led ensemble started in the fall of 2012, when Monica was working in student government for a local university. A year later in the fall of 2013, she had the opportunity to work with over 25 musicians through a local college to present a spring concert showcasing collaboration among students. In 2014, Monica collaborated with over 40 musicians to present a second concert in the spring of 2015. In addition, she conducted a small ensemble of 12-14 duel-enrollment and collegiate string musicians for each concert. Monica’s desire to start a nonprofit whose focus would be centered on service and collaboration was solidified when she coordinated fundraising for a school music club in 2014-2015. Strings Con Brio came to fruition shortly thereafter, performing their first two community performances during the fall of 2015, and receiving 501(c)(3) designation in February 2016.
